SAFETY SUCCESS

Hi folks

The Overseal Horse-riders invited me to another yearly National Safety campaign to educate all vehicle users to slow right down whilst horses and their riders are riding on roads.

Understanding the dangers of passing horses too quickly and too closely whilst driving on our roads, especially in the rural areas of the country.

With an increasing number of recorded incidents involving horses and vehicles, mainly due to the increase of vehicles using our roads, our aim was to slow down drivers as well as if it is safe to pass then give at least a 2 metre distance.

Mary Holland did a fantastic job organising it, and thanks to a couple of my colleagues and also Amy Wheelton and Kerry for escorting us around Linton area safely.

Many vehicles actually stopped whilst 12 horses rode passed, which was wonderful, and even a kind hearted local resident who was working on a digger in his front garden stopped his work whilst riding passed, greatly appreciated 👏

STATISTICS BETWEEN 01/01/23 - 31/12/2023

3,383 reported incidents involving horses.

66 horses have died and 86 have been injured.

3 people have died, and 94 have been injured because of road incidents.

85% of incidents occurred because a vehicle passed by too closely or passed too quickly.

Also remember that like many motorbike and cyclist users wear good cctv camera's.

SLOW DOWN….PASS WIDE….SAVE LIVES

Thank you for your attention ☺️
